Gresham College: Prof. Sir Geoffrey Nice Q.C. – Human Rights: The Law – #2/6

From Human Rights to Srebenica

The lectures will cover various themes – The first three will address Human Rights (the origin of the notion of special human rights in history and philosophy, and what have been the major Human Rights impacts and effects, regardless of origin); followed by a personal review of Sir Geoffrey’s own life in the law in a light hearted event to amuse with some personal history; and two lectures on the trials about Srebrenica in the year of the 20th anniversary (July 1995) of the massacre

About this lecture

An exploration of Human Rights law as it developed and which draws criticism from the general public.  The audience will be invited to consider what, if anything, they complain of in what is nowadays referred to as Human Rights law.  The lecture will deal with topics raised and those which are more generally the subject of criticism.  Time will be allowed for (structured and time limited) contributions from the audience.
