Trump Said: Trump lied to troops in Iraq – blatantly

When speaking to American troops in Iraq Trump lied about their pay rise

During remarks to U.S. troops at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq on Wednesday, President Trump said of the wage hike: “You haven’t gotten one in more than 10 years — more than 10 years. And we got you a big one. I got you a big one.”

CNN fact checked it here:-

In addition The Washington Post looked at this as well.

Trump said:-

Speaking to members of the military during his surprise trip overseas this week, President Trump spoke about the raises they received.

“You haven’t gotten one in more than 10 years — more than 10 years,” he said Wednesday. “And we got you a big one. I got you a big one. I got you a big one.”

He continued:

“They said: ‘You know, we could make it smaller. We could make it 3 percent. We could make it 2 percent. We could make it 4 percent.’ I said: ‘No. Make it 10 percent. Make it more than 10 percent.’ ”

The problem with those statements? They’re not true.

The truth is this:

the pay raise Trump authorized this year amounted to 2.6 percent, not 10 percent. And the troops have received a pay raise every year for decades.

Adam’s bolding of the quote.

The raise for the military that was approved in Trump’s first year in office was 2.4 percent, for 2018. The Military Times reported that Trump’s initial pay-raise proposal was 2.1 percent, but lawmakers approved the higher 2.4 percent mark.

So Trump’s proposal was less than that approved; plus the increase received bi-partisan support – so his fight for a big increase may exist more in his own distorted rality, rather than the real world.

The 2.6 percent pay raise authorized for 2019 is the largest in the past nine years.

Here is a useful chart of the approved pay increases since 1997 – sourced from Military Times

It is noteworthy that this is a lie he has now told several times, to audiences of military personnel and/or their families.

Trump shows his respect for the military by lying to them and their families repeatedly.

It is clear that his professed respect is non-existent.

It is yet another example of his habit of lying compulsively, about everything.
