NZ Budget ‘Hack’: How Robertson traduced National and Bridges and what happened then

03/06/2019

Scoop NZ unaccountably this Press Release link seems to have disappeared from the Beehive website, unless I looked in the wrong place

Statement from Finance Minister Grant Robertson on the statement from Treasury Secretary Gabriel Makhlouf:

”This is extremely serious and is now a matter for the Police.

“We have contacted the National Party tonight to request that they do not release any further material, given that the Treasury said they have sufficient evidence that indicates the material is a result of a systematic hack and is now subject to a Police investigation.

“What New Zealanders care about are the issues that will be dealt with in the Wellbeing Budget on Thursday, and that is what we continue to be focussed on.”

Key is this

Treasury said they have sufficient evidence that indicates the material is a result of a systematic hack and is now subject to a Police investigation.

So Robertson supported Teasury claims of criminality and he was supported in this by Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters. In fact Peters has doubled down on his accusations, even after Treasury backed off and the Police declined to act, as this clip makes clear

Yet this morning Treasury say it was a human error, but continue to obfuscate, but yesterday Treasury Head Gabriel Maklouf was all over the media claiming a criminal hack Budget leak a deliberate hack – Treasury CEO

Now to their credit Newshub ran a story that debunked Makhlouf’s claims

Thursday morning Nine To Noon ran a fairly reasonable summation of where we are, see below

Now Bridges came out swinging in his press conference earlier on Thursday

On Thursday, Robertson ran for cover and along the way threw Makhlouf to the wolves

On Friday he followed this up with no expression of confidence in Makhlouf.

More to come I suggest
