1971 BBC adaptation of Balzac’s novel, Cousin Bette. Set in Paris, Gareth Davies’s film of tragic jealousy and vengeance follows aging spinster Bette (Margaret Tyzack), whose less-than-exciting life causes her such bitterness toward her prosperous relatives that she eventually vows to destroy them. The crowning blow comes when she suffers unbearable humiliation at the hands of her cousin. With Helen Mirren, Colin Baker and Margaret Boyd.
