Prominent political pundit Matthew Hooton has withdrawn from commentary for the time being because of a conflict caused by his link to the successful leadership bid of National MPs Todd Muller and Nikki Kaye.

This raises some important issues about the nature of political commentary in NZ, but whilst many have criticized Hooton, very few have commented on the clear bias seen from many journalists and their outlets, for example the way elements in the media constantly attacked Simon Bridges and now we see a manufactured furore over Muller’s possession of a MAGA hat, but no mention of his Clinton memorabilia.
