The BBC was the first production company in the world to dramatise all sixty of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories with the same two actors in the lead roles throughout,. with Bert Coules as head writer, and featuring Clive Merrison as Holmes and Michael Williams as Watson. Together, the two actors completed radio adaptations of every story in the canon between 1989 and 1998.
