The Secret History of Rock & Roll

04/03/2008

invisible hit counter

Now I have a passion for music, especially for blues and jazz. In addition I really enjoy seeing how different generations and types of musician have been influenced by earlier ones. Recently, I have been listening again to the Secret History of Rock & Roll, a collection drawn from the marvellous RCA back catalogue.

When The Sun Goes Down is a bold look at how the roots of rock & roll, r&b, soul, folk and country were all indelibly influenced by these early classics. The CD series features hundreds of the definitive songs by some of the century’s most inventive artists. Each disc in the series concentrates on an exciting, wide-ranging listening experience and is painstakingly re-mastered to extraordinary fidelity.

When The Sun Goes Down, winner of 2 Living Blues Magazine critic’s awards for Best Blues Albums- Best Historical Reissue/Pre-War, and Producer of the Year- Best Historical Reissue.

The above are some comments about this 4 CD set ( link is to track listing for the set) from Bluebird representing a re-issue of some 100 great blues numbers that gave birth to the rock & roll revolution as the box notes say.

Great music. If like me you like to see how music evolved and the inspiration for the bands you grew up with, then get hold of this set and enjoy

In addition to the box set there are a number of individual volumes to enjoy. The link takes you to a page where each album is set out, individually, including the first 4 which form the set. As you will see below this enables you to click on the album and go through to more detail on each album.

I have not yet managed to get them all, but I hope too.

I do have, apart from the box set, Volume 5 though, which is Leadbelly and Volume 9 Blind Willie McTell. Follow the link and you reach a page with a copy of the album cover, brief note on the music and bands influenced, plus a track listing and samplers of 3 tracks.

Listen, tap your feet!
