DI Frost returns to Denton CID after his suspension following a review into his conduct on a previous case comes to an end. Teamed up with DS Maureen Lawson, Frost is thrust into two different murder investigations, while contending with toothache when he enjoys a defective lollipop. The first case focuses on a man who was stabbed to death and dumped in a canal, holding onto £6000 in cash. Discovered to be leading two separate married lives, Frost questions if one of the wives discovered this, but soon learns he was blackmailing someone over a fraudulent scheme. Meanwhile, his second case focuses on the dismembered body of a man found in a fridge at a recycling holding site. The victim transpires to be linked to the local ballroom dancing scene, and Frost soon discovers his killer is extremely competitive to an alarmingly unhinged manner.
