For Operation Overlord, one of the key objectives for the Allied Powers was to secure the deep water port at Cherbourg. One of the divisions who was tasked with cutting across the peninsula and securing this port was the 4th Infantry Division. But before they could achieve their objective, they’d have to penetrate through the Atlantic Wall defenses at Utah Beach.
