More power to the Secret Seven

05/05/2009

Simon Upton writes an intelligent and balanced column on the ministerial ‘purchase’ advisers. The so called secret seven.

It beats Adam why the PSA and Labour are so up in arms over this.

Well actually it does not. It just shows how frightened the PSA and Labour are as to the probable exposure of poor spending, bloated bureaucracy and waste in general. Upton is cogent on how the concept of a proper ‘purchase’ agreement can help a department as well.

The PSA should be ashamed for appearing to defend the idea that spending should not be subject to stress testing as to efficacy and value for money. Since when is spending not to be subject to scrutiny by the government?

Adam says more power to the Secret Seven and asks should they be the Secret Twenty, give’m the tools to do the job.

Agree wholeheartedly with Adam’s conclusions here. And we were not at all upset to see Chris Hipkins make an absolute pillock out of himself this afternoon.
