From The Telegraph in London a list of the Top 10 most irritating phrases as compiled by researchers at Oxford University

The top ten most irritating phrases:

1 – At the end of the day

2 – Fairly unique

3 – I personally

4 – At this moment in time

5 – With all due respect

6 – Absolutely

7 – It’s a nightmare

8 – Shouldn’t of

9 – 24/7

10 – It’s not rocket science

There are some interesting comments on the related thread at the Telegraph site.

Readers of this blog may care to add some of their own pet hates.

Adam thinks that phrase number 2 or variations thereon is one of the most irritating.

    A great list. But it misses the most annoying phrase of all:

    “Going forward…”

    I love using metaphors when I talk to my clients. My problem is that they become rather mixed and the message becomes rather confused.

    Some of my pet hates, and I am guilty of using some of them at times, include:-

    1 – have a nice day

    2 – good as gold

    3 – I have to say

    4 – sweet as
